Ventral hernias occur in the front abdominal wall when muscles weaken or an opening allows tissue or intestines to protrude. Not all ventral hernias will cause symptoms, and in milder cases, the protrusions can be moved back into position manually without the need for surgery. Laparoscopic surgery is often chosen for hernia repair because it has less recovery time and discomfort.
